FIELD TRIP REPORT

  PLANNING

As a part of B.Ed course, our college has decided to conduct a field trip for all option students. The field trip was planned according to the relevance of the place with their subjects. We have discussed in our class about our destination. As we are natural science students, from the varied opinions raised, we finally decided to visit Zoological Park at Thiruvananthapuram. Because zoo has it's own importance and we know that this trip will be more helpful to study about the animal diversity which is protected in our own country. Thus we started our journey on 18th November Friday at 8.00 am by a tourist bus arranged by our college principal. On the way we had our breakfast and continued our journey.

 PREPARATION

Before the visit we have collected more information about Zoological Park to increase our curiosity. We have inquired our time duration and ticket entry fair and other details before going. Then they divided us into groups. At 10.30 am our group of 16 members move inside the zoo after taking the entry pass.

 EXECUTION

With the guidance of the teacher, our group (16 members) went inside the zoo at 10.30 am and it was very interesting and pleasant to get inside the zoo. It was full of natural beauty and the natural settings provided for the animals and birds was eyecatching.

The Thiruvananthapuram zoo is located in the city of Trivandrum which occupies 55 acres (22 ha) of woodland, lakes and lawns. It is the oldest zoo in India and Asia. Swathi Thirunal Ramavarma, who ruled Travancore between 1830 and 1847, established a menagerie where Royal Tigers, Panthers, Cheetahs, Deers, Boar and other wild animals were kept.

There are many species that are extinct and endangered from our country. So it is very urgent to save our biodiversity and conserve them for the future.

 FOLLOW UP

The Thiruvananthapuram zoo is opened from 1857 for visitors. The zoo is home to 82 species from around the world. Animals, Birds, Reptiles etc are kept protected in separated blocks. Indigenous species at the zoo include Lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, Indian rhinoceros, Asiatic lion, Royal bengal tiger, White tiger, Leopard as well as nine Asian elephants. Animals from Africa include Giraffes, Hippos, Zebras and Cape buffalos. The zoo also includes a snake farm called The Reptile House, which exhibits both poisonous and non-poisonous snakes and also have seven Anacondas. Emu, an other continent bird is seen in the zoo. Critically endangered animals such as Lion tailed macaque, birds like Hornbill etc are safely protected in the zoo. Star Tortoise is a wonder for us to see. With increased loss of forest and wild life due to human development, the goal of the zoo has changed from recreation to conservation. We feels that it was a centre that conserving the biodiversity. We understood that, the zoo authorities are well organized in giving care, protection and food facilities to the different animals kept in the zoo as to the natural conditions.

 EVALUATION

As a science student, visiting the zoo makes us more useful and purposeful in knowing the details about the wildlife protected in our country and also it enables us to know the wonder of beautiful birds. After this journey we reached the college at 7.30 pm.
