              CONSCIENTIZATION PROGRAMME REPORT

INTRODUCTION

                As part of our B.Ed Curriculum, We conducted a conscientization programme on " Unhealthy Food Habits of Adolescence" at Govt. HSS West Kollam on 11th January 2018 at 1.30 pm to 2.00 pm. People nowadays find specific food items like bread, cake, pizza and cold drinks etc. This make harmful healthy issues and diseases. Especially, students are easily addicted to these junk foods. So we chosen this topic.

OBJECTIVES

  • To find out the ill-effects of modern food.
  • To develop a deep awareness about the harmful effects of modern food.
  • To sensitize students about the advantage of natural foods and also the defects of ready made food.

PROGRAMME

            The young generation, particularly teenagers were easily attracted towards bakery foods, fast foods, ice creams etc. They felt that ready made foods are very tasty  and yummy to eat. They believed that there is no harmful effects in these items. At the same time, they were far away from homely foods.

             We divided the topic into eight parts. Firstly, Asna starts the presentation by saying the introductory part ie, about junk food. She explained it clearly to the students that junk foods contains high levels of sugar or fat. Secondly, Sherin explained how these foods affect our body. Students carefully observe the slides and the changes that happens to our body during the digestion of these foods. Lisa continued the session by admitting the reasons why the junk food is bad. She specified that junk food is the reason for fatigue, indigestion and fluctuations in the blood level. Nimitha said about the malfunctioning of the brain, the risk of heart diseases, Kidney diseases etc occurred due to the intake of these food. Teena explained that junk foods can damage the liver, causes type 2 diabetes and also cancer. Rakhi mentioned about the types of healthy food that we have to intake. Different traditional foods are showed by using ICT. The students were enthusiastic. Meril discussed about the balanced diet for a healthy life. A food cycle also shown. Athulya concluded that in our diet we have to include fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, fish, etc and also to avoid the intake of junk food.

CONCLUSION

  On the Whole, the class was very informative and students moved by our talk. The students were actively participated. They enclosed their own opinions and views. At very simplest form, we depicted about the harmful effects of modern food habits. They realized about the complete aim of the programme. Overall, the class was very effective.
